Report

In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, cities around the world went into lockdown including Nairobi. Disruptions in education and the economy meant that young people - especially young women - lost out on opportunities to improve themselves and became isolated. Limited resource, missed opportunities, misinformation, and risk of exploitation meant that young women in slum communities became more vulnerable to violence and illegal activities.

Community Mappers in collaboration with YADEN East Africa designed and implemented a qualitative survey of young women to gather information about these vulnerabilities, and coordinated open discussions with young women and their wider communities to mitigate risks and support young women. We provide the original responses to our four survey questions. Readers are welcome to use this data with attribution.
